What is The Criteria To Be Hip Hops G.O.A.T.

What is The Criteria To Be Hip Hops G.O.A.T.

The argument that never stops, who is the greatest rapper of all time?  And how do we come to a conclusion?  Evaluating art is always opinion based.  I have my own criteria, and this is in no particular order.  Longevity, Originality, Flow, Marketability, Reach, Songwriting, Classic Albums, and Sales.  I believe there are so many that have an arguable claim to GOAT status, I'll review them occasionally in the near future, what is your criteria for being in the discussion of GOAT?

YOUNG MANS GAME

Young Mans Game

Rap has always been a Young Mans Game.  When I was growing up the popular hip hop artists were Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Biggie, 2pac, Jay-Z.  Another era after had DMX, 50 cent, eminem, Kanye, T.I.  Now the top artists of today are Drake, Migos, Rae Shrummard, Gucci Mane is still holding it down, Travis Scott and 21 Savage.  There are a few others, but you get my drift.

Gone are the days of raw lyrics over soul samples, or hard piano stabs and funky baselines.  Now we have minor keys with 808s and hi hats.  This is officially the era of the digital home producer.  Access to fruity loops and logic and other programs has making music easy as 1,2,3.  The hooks sound like nursery rhymes again as easy as 1,2,3.  And I second the sentiment of a popular up and coming rapper who said the audience likes melody more than lyrics.

All that being said, i'm not complaining because rap has always been a young mans game.  The popular rappers of my day were ranging anywhere from 15-28 years old.  The perspective of a man or woman in that age bracket will be different from a 35-40 year old.  I pick up what I like and hold on to it tight and discard the rest.  As a hip hop fan I've always been like that.  It was never about who was buzzing at the time with me, it was about who I connected with.  And having a stint as being in the thick of it, I know it's a business and I know certain songs are made, moves are made with a purpose of a bigger goal.  Entertainment of any kind is about taking advantage of your window of opportunity.  I didn't fully take advantage of mine for whatever reason, I know how hard it is to do, so I'm usually commending the artists that do, no matter what kind of music they do, what kind of gimmick they use, the end game is taking advantage of opportunity.

6 LONG YEARS

It's been 6 long years.  In that time frame I got a better job, quit music, started coaching high school basketball lost friends, got married and gained family.  It's hard to find your calling.  What is the purpose of being on earth? I'm still trying to figure out.  I love the feeling I get when music I make comes to fruition and people enjoy it.

I love the feeling I get when I'm on the sidelines with my heart pumping yelling out instructions to my players.  I probably need a perfect blend between the 2.  I'm 36 and still trying to figure out life.  I just try to treat people well, mind my business and do what makes me happy.  Hopefully, everything else will fall into place after that, for me it always has.  GOD has always made a way for me, even at my lowest points he has made a way for me.  Even when I didn't deserve it.

My music is currently on the top streaming sites which is a blessing, but now my goal is to empty my files and have everything put out there.  Life is short, this is my legacy at the end of the day, a door to my life, the why to my life, the window to the soul.  So, if nothing else if people really want to know me I have hundreds of songs explaining my truth.  It hurts when you put your heart into music and it falls upon deaf ears.  Now, this isn't always the case.  I have supporters that still play my music from 2010 I should be grateful for that.  But, I feel like I have a whole career after that, that has gone unnoticed.  J Cole said something to the affect of an "an artist just wants to be appreciated."  I fully agree with that.  As an artist you can get in your own head at times, and you just want to be validated.  I don't know if I will ever feel appreciated or validated.  Bitching and Moaning has never been my M.O. so, man up keep doing you and maybe just maybe one day people will see the genius in you.

What's next for The Lakers?

The Lakers season is over.  The Thunder are young and primed to be contenders for years to come, so how do the Lakers with an aging core contend in the future with the upstarts? Here are some possible scenarios and hints for Mitch Kupchak.

To Make a Move You must have Assets

-Pau Gasol 7'0 with an array of skills...inside/outside threat...#2 option on 2 championship teams, still has alot of game...

why trade him? He's had 2 bad postseasons back to back

-Andrew Bynum 7'0 arguably the best big man in the game and only 24 years old...

why trade him? He does immature things, and doesn't always play motivated and hungry

-9 million dollar trade exception from the Lamar Odom trade

-Still have the Amnesty clause which Ron Artest seems the most viable option for that if they choose to use it

NOW to get to the getdown... Feasible options: Paul Milsap, Andre Igoudala , Rodney Stuckey , David Lee, Nick Young , J.R. Smith , Luis Scola, Kevin Martin, Kyle Lowry , Barbosa , David West , Nene , Dwight Howard

These are players to watch, I know the Lakers are...

R.I.P. DONNA SUMMER

I hear this song everyday at work...RIP #LEGEND

Lakers need change of Scenery against Thunder

The Los Angeles Lakers are down 0-2, and need a change of scenery to help jumpstart a team that gave up a game they had in control yesterday in a tight loss to the thunder.  The heroics of Kevin Durant in a tight game took away a victory for Kobe, Bynum and company.

Why should there be a different result when the Lakers come home? The Lakers have been one of the best home teams all year, and historically in playoff runs.  The guys that aren't stars on the team, seem to step up more when they play at home, and the crowds energy and star power seems to feed the adrenaline rush.  If the Lakers lose either of their home games the series is all but done, they need to hold serve at home.

The Lakers need to play the game the same way, except hopefully they can get better play from Sessions, Barnes, and Steve Blake.  They have to keep the game at a grind it down tempo, and keep the speedy thunder from getting easy transition points, and uncontested jumpshots.  The Lakers have to make everything tough for the Thunders big 3 of James Harden, Kevin Durant, and Russell Westbrook.  It would be nice to keep at least 1 of those players below their average.  Drama in L.A. once again? The Lakers don't seem to like it any other way.

Dice The Nicest's Top 5 Rap Groups

Honorable Mention: My favorite group personally the DOGG POUND GANGSTAS....D.P.G....DAZ and Kurupt...the reason I don't have them higher is because of the last few albums, projects etc. that they put out, they didn't meet my expectations front to back, but i can find a gem on almost any project that they make...I'm just big on consistency so I had to keep it real!

5)Erick B and Rakim...They were never the same apart from each other.  This group is very influential in the hip hop culture and layed the groundwork for the future

4)Gangstarr...Premo is arguably the best hip hop producer of all time, and Guru is a unique rhymer, they had great chemistry and gelled together very, very nice

3)Outkast...Still Alive and Kicking, Great Chemistry really unique and nobody can copy their style, it's so difficult no one even tries!

2)NWA...Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Eazy E, Yella, Ren---Need I say more?

1) Wu-Tang ...Alot of em...All can rap and styles was crazy, Production fit their styles seamlessly

NBA TRADE RUMORS AND WHY?

Carmelo Pictures, Images and Photos

The NBA Trade Deadline is about a month away, and with that comes rumors leading up to it.  The biggest rumor is Carmelo Anthony to the Nets, sources say it is going to happen sooner than later.  What's the big deal about Melo?  He can get 30pts a game in his sleep.  He along with Kevin Durant, and Kobe Bryant are effortless scorers and clutch players. A couple things about the situation, Carmelo really wants to play in New York.  The Knicks have a solid team, a superstar over there already in Amare, they are a young team with a lot of potential, and it's Madison Square Garden the most legendary arena in the NBA.  The Snag is Carmelo would have to wait until after the season to sign there, the money situation would change in the off-season with a new labor agreement in place in which he would make less money than he could at this point.  So why not just sign with them right now? He is currently under contract with the Denver Nuggets and the deal doesn't expire until seasons end.

Why don't the Nuggets just trade him to New York? The Knicks don't have enough "assets" to make the trade worthwhile.  The Knicks have solid players the best of which available is Danilo Gallineri a sharpshooting small forward in his third year, with a lot of potential.  Wilson Chandler who has developed into a solid NBA player and good scorer around 17 per.  Other than that it's not much on the roster to ride home about, Landry Fields is also a good player he's a suprising rookie who is averaging double figures and is a New York type of player.  In any trade especially for a superstar usually the other team would want back an expiring contract which will give them flexibility to sign a free agent, A first round pick(s), and good young talent that can bloom into something.  The Knicks have no draft picks, but they have the other 2.  The Nets meanwhile drafted Derrick Favors 4th overall in this past years draft.  He hasn't had a great rookie season but he's loaded with potential.  The Nets also are under the salary cap so they are cool money wise.  The Nets also have first round picks to send over.  The Nets are in a better position than the Knicks are.  The Nets don't have staying in New Jersey in their favor, they're supposedly moving to Brooklyn in the near future, both of those places don't hold a candle to Madison Square (from what i was told).  New Jersey will not trade for Melo and give up future investments if he doesn't agree to sign and extend with them.  So It's all up to Carmelo, take the money and hope the owner knows what he's doing and builds around you, or play for less money in the basketball Mecca with another Superstar and be ready to challenge Orlando, Boston, Chicago and Miami for the Eastern Conference.  If the Nuggets don't want the LeBron James situation they better move him somewhere and get something for him!

O.J. Mayo

This column will be wayyyyyy shorter because Mayo hasn't improved.  I joked that Mayo reached his potential ceiling in College.  He is a solid 2-guard but I can see him being a Jimmy Jackson journey man type.  Putting up solid numbers everywhere but just not good enough to invest in long term.  He wants to play for a contender if he's on his way out, Denver and Chicago have been rumored.  I have a feeling he'll be part of the Melo deal and end up on Denver, if he ends up on Denver then you know J.R. Smith will be out of there shortly.

Gerald Wallace

Gerald Wallace is a great player, made the all-star game last year, helped lead them to the playoffs, but the Bobcats organization is broke.  He's the highest payed player on the team so he's first to bounce.  Rumors are to Cleveland, but I would push for teams like Houston, Chicago, I think he would fit in there nicely.  He would be good on Cleveland but they're rebuilding it's going to be a couple years until they contend again.

Steven Jackson

Same situation as Gerald Wallace, I think Chicago would be a great destination.  D. Rose, Jackson, Boozer, Noah, Deng.  That would be a scary team. I think he would be an upgrade over Richard Jefferson if he went back to San Antonio where he won a championship, Atlanta where he played before.  There are a lot of places he could go and put a team over the top.
